Hawaii Take-Home Pay by Pay Frequency (2026)

The same Hawaii take-home figures divided across common pay schedules — what actually lands in your account each payday, after federal tax, FICA, Hawaii state income tax, and the HI TDI premium.

$60,000 $910 $1,821 $1,972 $3,944
$80,000 $1,162 $2,325 $2,518 $5,037

$200,000 $2,594 $5,188 $5,620 $11,241

Biweekly and semi-monthly are not the same thing. Biweekly means every other Friday — 26 paychecks a year, so two months each year contain three paydays. Semi-monthly means twice a month (often the 15th and the last day) — 24 slightly larger paychecks. On a $40,000 salary in Hawaii, that difference is about $105 per check. Annual take-home is identical either way.

Single filer, no pre-tax deductions. Divides annual take-home evenly; real paychecks vary slightly with withholding rounding and benefit deductions.

What's different about a Hawaii paycheck

TDI: 0.5% up to $7.50 a week

Hawaii requires employers to provide Temporary Disability Insurance, and they may deduct half its cost from your pay, but no more than 0.5% of weekly wages and no more than $7.50 a week for 2026 (up from $7.21 for 2025). That caps the deduction at $390 a year; it reaches the cap at about $78,000 of annual pay. TDI pays 58% of your average weekly wage while you can't work, up to $871 a week for 2026. The tables on this page include it.

Employer health coverage is required

Under the Prepaid Health Care Act, employers must provide health insurance to employees who work 20 or more hours a week and earn at least $1,387 a month in 2026. The employer can take half the premium from your pay, but never more than 1.5% of your wages, and pays the rest.

No "exempt" on Form HW-4

Hawaii uses its own Form HW-4 and doesn't allow employees to claim exemption from withholding. If you don't turn one in, your employer withholds as if you were single with no allowances. Heads of household are treated as single but can claim an extra allowance.

A $16 minimum wage

Hawaii's minimum wage is $16.00 an hour in 2026. Full-time that is $33,280 a year, about $27,886 after taxes and TDI.
