Texas Take-Home Pay by Pay Frequency (2026)

The same Texas take-home figures divided across common pay schedules — what actually lands in your account each payday, after federal tax and FICA.

Annual Salary Weekly52/yr Biweekly26/yr Semi-Monthly24/yr Monthly12/yr
$40,000 $660 $1,320 $1,430 $2,860
$60,000 $969 $1,938 $2,100 $4,199
$80,000 $1,252 $2,504 $2,713 $5,426
$100,000 $1,523 $3,045 $3,299 $6,598
$150,000 $2,188 $4,377 $4,741 $9,483
$200,000 $2,864 $5,728 $6,205 $12,411

Biweekly and semi-monthly are not the same thing. Biweekly means every other Friday — 26 paychecks a year, so two months each year contain three paydays. Semi-monthly means twice a month (often the 15th and the last day) — 24 slightly larger paychecks. On a $40,000 salary in Texas, that difference is about $110 per check. Annual take-home is identical either way.

Single filer, no pre-tax deductions. Divides annual take-home evenly; real paychecks vary slightly with withholding rounding and benefit deductions.

What's different about a Texas paycheck

Three deductions, all federal

A Texas paycheck carries only the deductions federal law requires. On $75,000, that leaves about $3,750 a year more than the same salary in California, where state income tax and State Disability Insurance also come out. Anything else on your pay stub, such as health insurance or a 401(k), is a benefit you chose.

Your W-4 does all the work

With no state withholding, the federal W-4 is the only thing deciding how much tax comes out of each check. If it is set wrong, nothing else smooths it over, so people who move here from a state with income tax sometimes find a surprise at filing time. The IRS Tax Withholding Estimator is the quickest way to check it.

Bonuses lose only federal tax and FICA

A bonus paid on its own check is usually withheld at the federal flat 22%, plus Social Security and Medicare. A $10,000 bonus arrives as about $7,035, against about $5,882 in California. The 22% is withholding, not your final tax; the actual amount is settled when you file.

Paydays: twice a month for hourly workers

The Texas Payday Law requires employers to pay non-exempt employees at least twice a month on regular paydays. Salaried employees who are exempt from overtime can be paid monthly. See the pay-frequency table above for what each schedule means per check.

Overtime is weekly only

Texas has no daily overtime rule. Overtime at time and a half is owed only for hours over 40 in a seven-day workweek, so four 10-hour days pay no overtime at all. The calculator's hourly mode uses the same weekly rule.

The minimum wage is the federal $7.25

Texas adopts the federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour, or $15,080 for a full-time year. That comes to about $13,926 after Social Security and Medicare; at that income no federal income tax is due for a single filer using the standard deduction.

Final paychecks have deadlines

If you are laid off or fired, your final pay is due within six calendar days. If you quit or retire, it is due on the next regular payday. Commissions and bonuses follow the same deadlines unless your written pay agreement sets a different schedule.

For the annual picture, including capital gains, credits, and filing deadlines, see the Texas income tax calculator.

Texas Income Tax Brackets (2026)

Texas has no state income tax on wages. There are no brackets, no standard deduction, and no state filing required for wage income. The only mandatory paycheck deductions are federal income tax, Social Security, and Medicare.

What Texas taxes instead

Texas trades income tax for some of the highest property taxes in the country.

  • Property tax. Texas levies no state property tax, but school districts, counties, cities, and special districts each tax homes and businesses at their own rates, and those local levies fund schools and local government. For a homeowner they can outweigh what a moderate state income tax would have cost, so "no income tax" does not automatically mean a lower total burden.
  • Sales tax. A 6.25% state rate plus up to 2% in local add-ons caps the combined rate at 8.25%, the rate in most large cities, making consumption the second pillar of state revenue.
  • Franchise (margin) tax. Texas taxes business margin rather than personal or corporate income. Small businesses below the revenue threshold owe nothing, which is part of the state's relocation pitch.

None of this touches your paycheck — the calculator above shows federal tax and FICA only, because that is genuinely all Texas withholds. The catch is that a bigger paycheck is not the same as a lower total burden: what the state skips on income it generally collects somewhere else. Compare against a state that does tax income using the state paycheck calculators.
