Louisiana Income Tax Calculator

Louisiana replaced its three-bracket income tax with a flat 3% in 2025 and nearly tripled the standard deduction. A single filer earning $80,000 owes about $2,014 for 2026, against about $2,628 under the 2024 rules. The trade-off was the end of the extra exemptions for dependents, people 65 and older, and the blind.

What's different about Louisiana income tax

A flat 3% since 2025

Act 11 of the 2024 Third Extraordinary Session repealed the brackets, which ran from 1.85% to 4.25% for 2022 through 2024, in favor of 3% on all taxable income for every filing status.

What the change is worth

For a single filer: $30,000, $514 in 2026 against $686 under the 2024 rules; $50,000, $1,114 in 2026 against $1,386 under the 2024 rules; $80,000, $2,014 in 2026 against $2,628 under the 2024 rules; $150,000, $4,114 in 2026 against $5,603 under the 2024 rules. The bigger deduction does most of the work at lower incomes; the lower top rate matters more further up.

A bigger standard deduction, now indexed

The standard deduction rose from $4,500 to $12,500 for single filers and from $9,000 to $25,000 for joint filers and heads of household in 2025. From 2026 it rises with inflation; the Department of Revenue used $12,875 and $25,750 for the 2026 withholding tables and said the final figure might differ slightly.

No more dependent or age exemptions

The same law repealed the additional exemptions for dependents, blind taxpayers, and people 65 and older.

A larger retirement exclusion at 65

People 65 and older can exclude up to $12,000 a year of retirement income each, up from $6,000, and the amount is indexed for inflation from 2026.

No local income tax

Louisiana parishes and cities don't tax wages.

Louisiana Income Tax Brackets (2026)

Louisiana has a flat income tax of 3% for 2026. Both single and joint filers pay the same rate on all taxable income.

Standard Deduction
$12,875 single · $25,750 joint

Taxable income equals gross wages minus pre-tax deductions and the standard deduction.

How Louisiana Income Tax Compares to Neighboring States

Total income tax (federal + state) on a $100,000 annual salary in 2026, single filer using the standard deduction:

State State Tax Total Income Tax vs. Louisiana
Louisiana (here) $2,614 $15,784 —
Texas $0 $13,170 -$2,614
Arkansas $3,492 $16,662 +$879
Mississippi $3,268 $16,438 +$654

A negative "vs." figure means that state collects less total income tax than Louisiana. Federal portion is identical across states; only state tax varies.
