Utah Take-Home Pay by Pay Frequency (2026)

The same Utah take-home figures divided across common pay schedules — what actually lands in your account each payday, after federal tax, FICA, and Utah state income tax.

Annual Salary Weekly52/yr Biweekly26/yr Semi-Monthly24/yr Monthly12/yr
$40,000 $639 $1,278 $1,384 $2,769
$60,000 $926 $1,852 $2,006 $4,012
$80,000 $1,187 $2,374 $2,571 $5,143
$100,000 $1,437 $2,874 $3,114 $6,228
$150,000 $2,060 $4,120 $4,463 $8,926
$200,000 $2,693 $5,386 $5,834 $11,669

Biweekly and semi-monthly are not the same thing. Biweekly means every other Friday — 26 paychecks a year, so two months each year contain three paydays. Semi-monthly means twice a month (often the 15th and the last day) — 24 slightly larger paychecks. On a $40,000 salary in Utah, that difference is about $106 per check. Annual take-home is identical either way.

Single filer, no pre-tax deductions. Divides annual take-home evenly; real paychecks vary slightly with withholding rounding and benefit deductions.

What's different about a Utah paycheck

No state W-4

Utah has no withholding certificate of its own. Employers use the filing status on your federal W-4, single or married, and Utah's schedules in Publication 14. The schedules start from wages subject to federal withholding and make no subtraction for anything else you claim on the W-4.

Withholding often runs ahead of the tax

The withholding formula takes 4.45% of wages less an allowance of $485 a year for single employees, and the allowance shrinks by 1.3% of wages above $9,348, so it is gone by about $46,700. The credit on the return is about twice as large and lasts to much higher incomes. At $75,000 a single employee has about $3,338 withheld for a tax of about $3,110, roughly $228 that comes back as a refund.

The 2026 rate cut arrived in June

SB 60 cut the rate to 4.45% for all of 2026, but the new withholding schedules apply only to pay periods beginning on or after June 1, 2026. Paychecks from January through May were withheld at the old 4.5%, and the difference comes back when you file.

Short stints in Utah

Nonresidents who work in Utah for 20 days or less, have no other Utah income, and live in a state with no income tax or a similar exclusion have no Utah tax withheld. The exclusion doesn't apply to professional athletes or entertainers, people paid per event, real property laborers, or an employer's key employees.

Minimum wage

Utah follows the federal minimum of $7.25 an hour. Full-time, that is $15,080 a year, and Utah income tax on it comes to $0: the taxpayer tax credit cancels it, and income at or below the federal standard deduction is exempt from Utah tax anyway.

Utah Income Tax Brackets (2026)

Utah has a flat income tax of 4.45% for 2026. Both single and joint filers pay the same rate on all taxable income.

Taxpayer tax credit
No deduction from income; instead a credit of up to $966 single · $1,932 joint comes off the tax, shrinking by 1.3% of income over $18,213 ($36,426 joint).

Taxable income equals gross wages minus pre-tax deductions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Utah state income tax rate?

Utah has a flat income tax rate of 4.45% for 2026. Whether you earn $40,000 or $200,000, your state tax rate is the same — applied to all wages, then reduced by the taxpayer tax credit, which phases out as income rises.

How much is taken out of my paycheck in Utah?

For a single filer earning $75,000 in Utah (2026), expect roughly $7,670 in federal income tax, $5,738 in FICA, and $3,110 in Utah state income tax — leaving about $58,483 take-home (22% effective tax rate). Utah has no state paid-leave premium and no local income tax, so those are the only deductions required by law.

Does Utah have its own W-4?

No. Employers withhold Utah tax using the filing status on your federal W-4 and the schedules in Publication 14.

When did Utah withholding change to 4.45%?

For pay periods beginning on or after June 1, 2026. The rate applies to the whole year on your return.

Why do I get a Utah refund every year?

The withholding allowance is smaller than the taxpayer tax credit and phases out sooner, so many middle earners have more withheld than they owe: about $228 for a single filer at $75,000.

Is there a city income tax in Utah?

No. Salt Lake City and other Utah cities don't tax wages.
