What's different about Wyoming income tax

No return to file

Wyoming has no individual income tax return. Wages, Social Security, pensions, IRA and 401(k) withdrawals, interest, dividends, and capital gains are all free of state income tax; only the federal return applies.

A new homeowner property tax exemption

Starting with tax year 2026, Wyoming homeowners who live in a single-family home, condominium, townhouse, or manufactured home at least eight months of the year can exempt 25% of its fair market value from property tax, on up to the first $1,000,000 of value. You apply through an affidavit reviewed by your county assessor. Military families on active duty who can't meet the eight-month rule may still qualify if the home is their legal domicile.

Sales tax does most of the work

The state sales tax is 4%, and counties can add local sales taxes, bringing the combined rate to as much as 7%. Unprepared groceries are exempt.
