New York Take-Home Pay by Pay Frequency (2026)

The same New York take-home figures divided across common pay schedules — what actually lands in your account each payday, after federal tax, FICA, New York state income tax, and the NY PFL + SDI premium.

Annual Salary Weekly52/yr Biweekly26/yr Semi-Monthly24/yr Monthly12/yr
$40,000 $626 $1,252 $1,356 $2,713
$60,000 $913 $1,825 $1,977 $3,955
$80,000 $1,173 $2,347 $2,542 $5,084
$100,000 $1,421 $2,841 $3,078 $6,156

$200,000 $2,649 $5,297 $5,739 $11,477

Biweekly and semi-monthly are not the same thing. Biweekly means every other Friday — 26 paychecks a year, so two months each year contain three paydays. Semi-monthly means twice a month (often the 15th and the last day) — 24 slightly larger paychecks. On a $40,000 salary in New York, that difference is about $104 per check. Annual take-home is identical either way.

Single filer, no pre-tax deductions. Divides annual take-home evenly; real paychecks vary slightly with withholding rounding and benefit deductions.

What's different about a New York paycheck

Paid Family Leave and disability come out after tax

For 2026 Paid Family Leave costs 0.432% of each paycheck, up to $411.91 for the year, and disability insurance 0.5% of wages up to 60 cents a week, or $31.20 a year. Both are taken from your after-tax pay, so they don't reduce your taxable wages. On $75,000 they come to about $355 a year. The tables on this page include them.

Living in the city means a second income tax

If you live in New York City, your employer also withholds city income tax, which runs from 3.078% to 3.876% of New York taxable income: about $2,472 a year on $75,000, or $95 per biweekly check. It follows where you live, not where you work, so people who commute in from New Jersey, Connecticut, or the suburbs don't pay it. Choose New York City in the calculator to include it.

Yonkers takes a share of your state tax

Yonkers residents have an extra 16.75% of their New York State withholding taken out as a city surcharge. People who work in Yonkers but live elsewhere have 0.5% of their wages withheld instead. The calculator includes the resident surcharge but not the nonresident tax.

Withholding runs on the IT-2104

New York withholding for state, city, and Yonkers tax is set by Form IT-2104, not your federal W-4. Review it when you move into or out of New York City, since the city tax depends on where you live.

Bonuses are withheld at 11.70%

A bonus paid separately from regular wages can be withheld at New York's flat supplemental rate of 11.70%, plus 4.25% for New York City residents. With the federal 22%, Social Security, Medicare, and Paid Family Leave, a $10,000 bonus outside the city arrives as about $5,822.

Manual workers are paid weekly

New York labor law requires manual workers to be paid every week, unless their employer has state permission to pay less often. Clerical and other workers must be paid at least twice a month.

Two minimum wages

For 2026 the minimum wage is $17.00 an hour in New York City, Long Island, and Westchester, and $16.00 in the rest of the state. Tipped food service workers can be paid a lower cash wage, $11.35 and $10.70 respectively, with tips making up the difference.
